Last week we learned how to make custom Google maps -- this week, we’ll learn how to make them collaborative:
You can allow your students, their parents, or anyone to add placemarks to your map – all at the same time! Users must have a Google Account to edit a collaborative map.

Creating a Collaborative Map

1.Follow the steps from last week’s tip to create and save a new map.

2.Click the “Collaborate” link at the left side of the screen.

3.In the pop-up window, click to “Allow anyone to edit this map.”

Sharing Your Map
-
1.Click the “Link” button in the upper-right corner.

2.Give the provided link to others to view your map.
-
3.Use the provided HTML code to embed your map in a blog, wiki, or website.

Editing a Collaborative Map
Others can edit your map by doing this:

1.Go to the provided URL.
-
2.Sign in using their Google Account.
-
3.Click the Edit button.

4.Follow the steps in last week’s tip to add placemarks.

5.Bonus - Click the “View in Google Earth” link to generate a KWL file that will open in your map (placemarke included!) in Google Earth.
